Discount and Charity Care Policies

On January 1, 2009, Florida Statute 395.301 was amended to include language relating to consumer access to healthcare information. The changes require hospitals provide the uninsured persons with information regarding discount and charity policies.
The following information relates to Citrus Memorial Health System’s discount and charity policies for uninsured patients:

I. Discounted charge rate for those patients who are uninsured
A. It is the policy of Citrus Memorial Health System to discount charges by thirty percent (30%) for hospital services to all uninsured patients.
B. Citrus Memorial Health System defines an Uninsured Patient as a patient with no healthcare insurance coverage of any type.

II. Charity Care Procedure: (Hospital Sponsorship)
A. It is the policy of Citrus Memorial Health System to evaluate all uninsured patients’ ability to pay and offer charity to those individuals who qualify.

B. Qualifying for charity care under Citrus Memorial Health System’s procedures involves the following:
1. Guarantors complete a financial statement application which details their income and expenses during the twelve (12) months prior to the hospital visit.

2. The financial statement application is reviewed for completeness. Supporting documentation may be requested from the Guarantor.

3. If the validated financial statement application and supporting documentation reflects an income at or below 200% of the most current Federal Poverty Level (FPL) for the stated family size, the account will be qualified for charity in its entirety.
