Who is Randall Jenkins?
As a young man, Randall Jenkins worked hard to acquire the skills necessary for a career in medicine. After graduating from Citrus High School and leaving home to attend Emory University Medical School, Jenkins set his sights on the wild blue yonder, serving for two years as an Air Force flight surgeon. After serving his country, Dr. Jenkins returned to the familiar surroundings of home, and settled into Citrus County to practice family medicine.
From the start, he focused on helping the less fortunate and most vulnerable. In the decades since, Dr. Jenkins created a lasting legacy of healing and hope, not just for his patients and their families, but for all of Citrus County. As a founding physician associated with Citrus Memorial Hospital, Dr. Jenkins helped transform Citrus Memorial from a small outpost of rural medicine to the current modern facility and extended campus. He served as the hospital’s Chief of Staff, and on the hospital’s governing board for a total of 18 years. In 2001, after a lifetime of service and achievement, Dr. Jenkins died of cancer at his Black Diamond home.
Since then, the Citrus County community has sought to honor Dr. Jenkins’ memory in a variety of ways. Among the many efforts, in honor of Dr. Jenkins’ contributions to the community, and in acknowledgement of his enduring love for golf as a serious sport and beloved amateur hobby, the Citrus Memorial Health System Advisory Council is once again preparing to host one of Citrus County’s most anticipated events. Scheduled for March 4, 2013, the 8th Annual Randall Jenkins Memorial Golf Tournament will take place at the world famous Black Diamond Ranch, in northwest Citrus County. Since 2005, the philanthropic office of Citrus Memorial Health System has hosted the golf tournament in honor of Dr. Jenkins, assisted by Claire Jenkins, Dr. Jenkins widow, who is an active member of the Golf Tournament Committee, and serves on the Advisory Council for the Foundation Development Office.
Said Mrs. Jenkins, “Our entire family is so pleased to be involved with Citrus Memorial and the golf tournament. I know that Randall would be so proud that, thanks to the generosity of a great many golfers and sponsors, his work will carry on.”
“The Randall Jenkins Memorial Golf Tournament has always been one of our leading fundraising events, and it is through events like these that we are able to raise funds that allow Citrus Memorial Health System to introduce more programs, to improve facilities and to provide our community with the very best healthcare available,” said Chris Pool, Citrus Memorial Director of Marketing and Philanthropy.
Sponsor Chairman, Lance LeDoux, Citrus Memorial Director of Support Services, hopes to raise more than $80,000 through cash and in-kind donations.
Advisory Council Chair Bob Collins said, “We absolutely expect a sell out for this event. The Black Diamond course is exceptional, truly among the finest courses world wide.” Added Collins, “But the fact that we’re able to organize an event in support of Citrus County’s most needy citizens, including children and the elderly, is what makes this day so special to all of us, and results in capacity crowds every year.”
The cost for the scramble format event is $325 per player. In addition to getting to play 18 holes of golf on one of Florida’s most breathtaking golf courses and receiving a variety of Black Diamond Logo Golf items, participants will enjoy a light continental breakfast, grilled lunch, and an evening awards reception, all while raising money for a great cause. Participants will also have the opportunity to compete for a variety of prizes, including Team Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place, Hole in One, Longest Drive, Closest to Pin, Putting Contest, and Drawing and Door prizes.
Participation in the 8th Annual Randall Jenkins Memorial Golf Tournament, along with support of other events hosted by the Citrus Memorial Health Foundation, will help Citrus Memorial Health System continue to provide the best healthcare to the residents of Citrus County.
