Heart Center

When you or a loved one is in need of advanced cardiac care, look no further than your own backyard.

For detailed information visit our new Heart Center Website.

From diagnostic catheterization and open-heart surgery to rehabilitation and community outreach, Citrus Memorial Heart Center offers the most comprehensive cardiac care in Citrus County.

In partnership with the nationally recognized Ocala Heart Institute, Citrus Memorial’s Heart Hopsital is second to none in terms of successful patient outcomes. In fact, the same surgeons who operate in some of Florida’s top regional medical centers also operate in our $14 million state-of-the-art Heart Center.

In critical times when minutes or even seconds can make all the difference, an agreement with the local EMS ensures that patients experiencing a heart attack or stroke bypass the emergency department and are taken directly to the Heart Center where the cardiac team is on standby.

ICE Program
Heart attack patients in Citrus County treated with the ICE (Induced Cooling by EMS) program are experiencing survival rates well above the national average, thanks to an innovative collaboration between Citrus Memorial’s Emergency Department, its Heart Center and local EMS professionals.  The process involves cooling the body’s temperature for approximately 24 to 36 hours following cardiac arrest, then raising it slowly.  Citrus Memorial is the first community-based hospital to partner with EMS to offer this cutting-edge procedure.

Outpatient Care
Upon discharge, a number of programs are available through the Citrus Memorial Health System to maintain and improve quality life.  The Home Health program helps ease the transition from hospital to home, as well as provide extra support to the primary care giver.  And to facilitate a faster recovery and help shorten future in-patient hospital stays, cardiac patients are strongly encouraged to participate in the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program.  Simply ask your physician for a referral.

Women’s Heart Program/Community Outreach
Despite all of the medical advances and support programs, avoiding the need for treatment is the real goal.  Ongoing community-wide cardiac wellness and screening programs help educate individuals about their risk factors and how to make healthier lifestyle choices.  Particular emphasis is given to women, whose symptoms differ from men’s, and to younger people who are often unaware of their risk factors.
