The Citrus Memorial Health System Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center opened in June 2008 to provide help for patients experiencing problems with chronic, non-healing wounds.

Located on the third floor of the Medical Office Building, the center is staffed by a team of wound care specialists including board-certified physicians, certified wound ostomy nurses and hyperbaric technologists who specialize in treating wounds that have not sufficiently healed after 4 to 6 weeks.

A variety of wound care services are available to serve patients including:

• Advanced wound dressings
• Bio-engineered skin substitutes
• Antibiotic therapy
• Growth factor therapy
• Negative pressure therapy
• Mist therapy using painless ultrasound

In addition, patients with exceptionally difficult wounds may be treated with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). This is most commonly seen in patients with diabetic foot wounds; chronic bone infections (osteomyelitis); compromised skin grafts and flaps; radiation damage to soft tissue and bone, bowel, bladder and prostate; and crush injuries. HBOT is provided through the use of two monoplace hyperbaric chambers. Sessions typically last for 2 hours, with the treatment period ranging from 5 days to 6 weeks.
