Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation

Treatment for cardiac and pulmonary diseases shouldn't stop when you're discharged from the hospital. Research shows that patients who participate in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs following their hospital stay recover faster and experience shorter inpatient visits in the future.

As the county's only hospital-based cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation center, Citrus Memorial Health System's Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program focuses on improving and restoring quality of life.

People who often benefit from the Cardiac Rehab program include, but are not limited to, those who have experienced heart attacks, coronary stent placements, bypass surgeries, heart transplants, heart valve replacements or have stable angina.  People with chronic lung diseases, including COPD, will benefit from our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.

Each patient is evaluated and receives an individualized treatment plan based on his or her unique needs. All rehabilitation sessions are closely supervised in a safe environment with the latest therapeutic equipment and led by our cardipulmonary rehabilitation specialist. In Cardiac Rehab patients wear cardiac monitors throughout their exercise sessions, with careful monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate.  Pulmonary Rehab patients have their oxygen levels monitored during their sessions.  Equally important is the emphasis placed on health education so recovery can continue at home.

Patients must be referred to the program by their physicians. Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation staff members work closely with referring and consulting physicians and send regular progress reports to ensure continuity of care. Conveniently located in the Medical Office Building, across the street from the main hospital, most patients visit the rehabilitation facility up to three times a week.

The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program is covered by most private insurance plans and by Medicare, based on the diagnosis. For more information, contact the CardioPulmonary Rehab Department at (352) 344-6538.
