On March 15—more than two months ahead of schedule—Citrus Memorial Hospital opened the last phase of its renovated Emergency Room.
According to Citrus Memorial Hospital CEO Ralph Aleman, the goal of the Emergency Room remodel is to provide patients with a better experience. "Everything from construction of private patient rooms to the way our nurse stations are located throughout the unit was done with our patients in mind," he said.
The new ER features improvements in patient privacy and safety, along with updated technology and enhanced staff workflow. The $8 million ER remodel is part of a larger Citrus Memorial renovation project that began in 2015 after HCA Healthcare leased the Inverness hospital and committed $45 million toward capital improvements. To date, more than $55 million has been spent on upgraded rooms, expanded services and the latest technology.
Aleman said construction projects at the hospital will remain ongoing. Some of those projects include upgrades in multiple operating rooms, the creation of an on-campus Graduate Medical Education center and myriad physical plant improvements.
"We appreciate our community members bearing with us as we made the necessary updates to our emergency room," Aleman said. "While the growing pains of construction were certainly felt, we think this new ER is one we can all be proud of. I am especially grateful to our staff members who went beyond the call of duty to ensure our patients and family members were cared for in a happy and healing environment throughout the project."
Citrus Memorial Hospital's emergency room now features 28 beds located throughout private rooms and a fast track treatment area. It is staffed with Board Certified emergency medicine physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and paramedics. All nurses hold advanced certifications in Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and either Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).
