Jack Brown, Julie Moomaw and Jan Minogue were recently recognized as volunteers of the month at Citrus Memorial Hospital.
Jack Brown, Volunteer of the Month for July, has been at Citrus Memorial for over 15 years. He has donated a total of 3,100 hours, mostly in the Emergency Room area. “Jack is one of those volunteers that is always dependable,” said Penny Zaphel, Manager of Volunteer Services. “He is kind and considerate to everyone entering the ER for treatment.”
Julie Moomaw was chosen Volunteer of the Month for August because of her dedicated service at the Medical Office Building. Volunteers are the first person a patient encounters at the MOB. “Julie has shown compassion and caring to those she encounters during her service,” said Zaphel. “Julie works several shifts a week to make certain the Welcome Desk is covered during regular business hours.”
Jan Minogue, Volunteer of the Month for September is a tireless worker in the Women and Baby Center. Many times she comes in before noon and stays until 6pm. “Jan is willing to do whatever it takes to make the Women and Baby Center at CMH a compassionate, caring place for the new moms and their babies,” according to Zaphel. “She is a ray of sunshine.”
Citrus Memorial staff and volunteers are responsible for nominating the Volunteer of the Month. In order to be nominated, an individual must meet the following criteria:
- Active membership in the Citrus Memorial Hospital volunteer program.
- Demonstrates remarkable concern for the welfare and happiness of hospital patients, staff and other customers of the hospital.
- Performs extraordinary acts of kindness.
- Has a positive effect on others.
- Willingly performs duties, as requested or identified.
- Day-to-day performance is dependable, consistent and people-oriented.

After the hospital was purchased by HCA, a non-profit group call CMHS Volunteers Inc. was formed to manage the Gift Shop and other fundraising efforts that would benefit students with scholarships and support non-profits groups within the community.
