Inverness, FL – Citrus Memorial Hospital is offering a series of free online health seminars focused on mental health. The presentations will be made by Laura Sturdevant, LCSW, Outpatient Program Coordinator at Behavioral Health Transitions; the series will be conducted using the Cisco Webex Meetings app which is available on all app stores.
- Understanding Resources: Thursday, August 20 at 12pm
This discussion will focus on the continuum of psychiatric care in Citrus County and how Citrus Memorial Hospital’s services fit in. How and where to access mental health treatment will be reviewed. An introduction to mindfulness as a coping skill will take place and be practiced.
- Trauma and Resiliency: Thursday, August 27 at 12pm
This discussion will focus on the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) study and how trauma can affect long term health and wellbeing. The impact of COVID-19 restrictions has led to a decline in mental wellbeing as well as increase the prevalence of grieving. Examples of when to seek support to cope with trauma as well as continued pandemic stressors will be reviewed and guests will be given an opportunity to practice skills in the session.
- Mindfulness: Thursday, September 3 at 12pm
The topic of this discussion is the concept of Mindfulness and the science that supports the use of it for mental wellbeing and more. Different mechanisms to practice Mindfulness will be introduced and applied in the session.
- The Mind/Body Connection and Overall Wellness: Thursday, September 10 at 12pm
This discussion will focus on the multiple ways in which the mind influences the body and vice versa. A holistic approach to whole person wellness will be introduced and individuals encouraged to explore different areas of their life to invest in self care. A mind-body exercise will end the session.
