"When my wife and I entered the cardiac unit at Citrus Memorial Hospital early on the morning of April 25, I had severe aortic stenosis.

My heart was pumping blood through a hardened and narrowed aortic valve that connects it to the large artery carrying freshly oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of my body.

By mid-morning, I had a new valve in place and was in the intensive care unit, awake and talking to my family."
