Conditions we treat

We treat a full range of conditions, including:

Physical therapy

Our licensed physical therapists focus on helping you regain mobility and independence following an injury, illness or surgery. You are evaluated and receive an individualized, hands-on treatment program to relieve pain and get moving again to the absolute best of their abilities.

Some of the physical therapies and rehabilitative techniques we offer include:

  • Anti-inflammatory, pain-reducing modalities
  • Coordination and balance training
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Face/body mechanics
  • Manual therapy techniques
  • Pain management therapy
  • Therapeutic activities and exercise

Aquatic therapy

Aquatic therapy focuses on increasing strength, flexibility and endurance, with low stress on joints.

With the resistance from the water and warm temperature of the pool, aquatic therapy helps strengthen without the need for weights. The buoyancy of the water takes the weight and stress off achy joints, making this type of therapy ideal if you are very weak, have arthritis or have acute joint and spine injuries.

Occupational therapy and hand services

Occupational therapy focuses on helping individuals regain independence and restore the ability to perform activities of daily living. This includes dressing, feeding and personal hygiene skills. Qualified occupational therapists (OTs) improve, develop and/or restore upper body strength, range of motion and coordination. Therapists also work to improve visual and perceptual skills, as well as cognitive processing.

The rehabilitation team at Citrus Memorial Hospital addresses the need for high-quality, cost-effective rehabilitative services in and out of the hospital.

Some goals may include improvement in the following:

  • Computer use
  • Financial management
  • Hobbies
  • Meal preparation
  • Mobility
  • Reading
  • Writing

Upper extremity advanced care and rehab

We have occupational therapists who specialize in the upper extremities and manage a full spectrum of care. This includes postoperative rehabilitation, preventive, non-operative or conservative treatment.

Some examples include:

  • Congenital deformities
  • Dupuytren's disease
  • Fractures of the wrist, hand, elbow and shoulder
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Overuse (cumulative trauma) disorders
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Stroke
  • Tendon injuries

Your physician may order custom splinting to support and protect your injury/condition. The OT/hand therapist will manufacture a custom splint and instruct you in its proper use and care. This includes how to put it on, how long to wear it and some common precautions to be aware of when using a splint.

Our therapists will use a variety of treatment techniques to increase your range of motion and alleviate pain. You will be instructed in home exercises and compliance is crucial for a good outcome.

Speech therapy

Speech therapy focuses on helping you regain speech and language skills by engaging in exercises that strengthen language comprehension, speech and communication. It will also help oral motor control and coordination.

Our speech therapists are also trained to evaluate and treat those with feeding and swallowing disorders to recover the ability to safely and efficiently swallow. Nutritional solutions are provided for the least restrictive diet with adequate caloric intake and hydration.

Sports medicine and orthopedic rehabilitation

Our outpatient rehabilitation centers provide specialized care for orthopedic conditions. Whether they are recovering from a total joint replacement or surgery to repair a muscle or tendon, we have the skills necessary to help you return to their highest level of functioning possible.

Each of our physical therapy centers features therapists trained in the latest manual therapy techniques to help increase range of motion and decrease pain. Additionally, our centers focus on delivering care based on the latest proven research.

Many of our therapists hold additional credentials for treating athletic injuries, such as athletic trainer (ATC) and certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS), making them uniquely qualified to treat these sports-related issues. They also attend special conferences annually to remain at the cutting edge of care practices in this area. Our patients can trust that they never need to leave Citrus County to receive the best possible care for sports-related surgeries and injuries.

Neurological and stroke rehabilitation

Citrus Memorial Hospital has outpatient rehab facilities uniquely equipped to handle any neurological problem, including incidents of stroke.

Our clinics have state-of-the-art equipment available to optimize recovery or manage your chronic condition, such as Parkinson's disease or a stroke. We use equipment which allows you to improve their balance using visual feedback and a unique program to address upper extremity and hand function when impaired by a neurological condition.

If you are currently struggling with a neurological condition, please ask your doctor for a prescription for a physical therapy evaluation. We will guide you to the correct clinic to optimize your success.
